Project/Position Name:
Maker Mentor—Pathmakers Ambassadors

Location of Assignment:
Humboldt County Office of Education (HCOE), K-12 schools, camps, fairs, etc.

Approximate Number of Hours/Week:
variable, up to 320 hours per school year (~10 hours per week), or 320 over the summer (8 full-time weeks).

Approximate Duration of Internship:
one year with extension possible (depending on number of applicants)

Pay Rate:
$15/hour

Preferred Education/Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent, college bound or currently enrolled in college; experience with hands-on “making” and/or STEAM knowledge preferred but not required.

Goals of the Project/Position:
To serve as role models for K-12 youth and to foster interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) through the acts of making and inventing things.

Expected Intern Duties:
To provide guidance to area youth involved in makerspace activities during in-school, afterschool, weekends, and over the summer. Maker activities will be culturally responsive and seek to teach about regional Native American culture, knowledge systems, and ways of making. The mentor should be a self-starter and be 95% self-managed.

Transportation Requirement:
A personal vehicle is not required, but would be helpful to be able to reach the locations. In most cases, the Ambassadors will need to get themselves to the work location.
