Vacancy Announcement Student Administrative Assistant

The Schatz Energy Research Center has an immediate opening for a Student Administrative Assistant. Hourly wage is $11.28-$13.06 per hour (appointments are normally made at the beginning of the salary range). This is a part time (10-20 hours per week), hourly, non-benefited, non-State position at the Schatz Energy Research Center on the Humboldt State University campus. A one-year commitment is requested, with reappointment dependent on funding and performance.

Background: The Center is an international leader in applied research and project implementation related to clean and renewable energy. The Center is located in a modern facility at Humboldt State University, and its dynamic team consists of 43 faculty, researchers, administrative staff, and students. The Center’s portfolio of clean energy projects includes renewable energy power systems, sustainable transportation, hydrogen fuel cells, energy efficiency, and developing country energy access.

Position Summary: Under the lead supervision of the Operations Manager and the day-to-day oversight of the Administrative Assistant, the Student Administrative Assistant will provide clerical and front office support while actively contributing to a positive and collaborative working environment.Duties and Responsibilities: This position is responsible for the performance of varied administrative support duties including, but not limited to: screening and routing telephone calls and visitors; distributing mail and arranging return shipping; processing, compiling, and filing department documents; supply ordering and tracking; and securing/coordinating meeting and travel arrangements for Center personnel. In addition, this position performs basic bookkeeping support and record keeping and other tasks to be defined.

Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience:Education equivalent to a high school diploma or technical/vocational program combined with some experience in an office environment. Equivalent to six months’ experience of related administrative support work that has provided the applicant with the knowledge, abilities, and skills listed below is preferred.

Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of all office equipment including copy machines, phones, and computers for numerous applications such as electronic calendaring & email

Skills:

  • Demonstrated intermediate Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks

Abilities:

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills including the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with diverse staff, faculty, students, and the general public in person and over the telephone
  • Ability to perform duties with confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
  • Ability to perform clerical tasks independently with speed and accuracy
  • Demonstrated competence in understanding, interpreting, and executing procedures, policies, information, ideas, and instructions
