The following list of student opportunities was compiled by Clarkson University's Institute for a Sustainable Environment.  Thanks to an ERE student who took part in a research program at the Institute last summer for sharing this information.

Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program - UC Santa Cruz

Application Deadline: Feb. 9, 2018

Each March we select 20 early-undergraduate Scholars from around the country to participate in a two-year conservation mentorship program centered on the summers between academic years. Our goal is to serve students from groups traditionally underrepresented in conservation, across disciplines, who can contribute to diversifying, redefining, and strengthening efforts to protect land, wildlife and water. GardenShare of St. Lawrence County is seeking one (or more!) student intern in the spring 2018 semester to complete a feasibility study around the idea of creating a mobile farmers market to serve the more remote parts of the county. Intern(s) could work on some or all of the following:

  • Research mobile markets in other locations, especially rural ones, to identify program models, challenges they faced, and financial viability
  • Identify food deserts in St. Lawrence County and potential locations within those deserts to be a stopping point for a mobile farmers market
  • With GardenShare staff and volunteers, visit existing mobile farmers markets to see first hand how they operate and learn more about challenges they have faced
  • Conduct farmer, potential host site, and potential customer research via surveys, focus groups, and one-to-one meetings

32nd Annual Gananoque Environmental Science and Engineering Conference - February 2nd-4th, 2018
