Jan 24 Deadline: 2020 Math Modeling Contest - Call for Participants

ERE Junior and Senior Level Undergraduate Students:

The Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM) and the Mathematical  Contest in Modeling (MCM) are sponsored by The Consortium for  Mathematics and its Applications (COMAP). ERE students have competed successfully in these international competitions, winning high or top honors (including the $10,000 prize) over schools such as UCLA, MIT, and Stanford. All teams compete by working on one of a selection of four or five modeling based problems. Generally, at least one of these problems has an environmental resources based focus. The main website for the contest is

http://www.comap.com/undergraduate/contests/

and a description of the modeling problems and the results from previous years can be seen at

http://www.comap.com/undergraduate/contests/mcm/previous-contests.php

The teams (made up of 3 or fewer undergraduate students) have a weekend to complete the research, calculations and writing needed to create a report describing their solution to the problem posed by COMAP.

The 2020 competition will occur February 13-17.  If you would like to participate in a team, send me an email (brad.finney@humboldt.edu) by Friday, January 24, 2020. If you already have a team of three in mind, let me know who the members are, but EACH member of the team must contact me independently.  All prospective team members must have already completed ENGR 326, and at least two of the members must have already completed ENGR 416.

If you are interested in joining in on the competition and would like help finding team members, I can try to assist you. The ERE department pays for the registration fee, so we reserve the right to limit the number of teams that are sponsored.
