2005

The Evolution Energy Systems design team, comprised of ERE students, IDT students and Faculty Advisor, won the grand prize in the 2005 H2U international design competition sponsored by the US Department of Energy and ChevronTexaco. The award was presented by Rick Zalesky, President of ChevronTexaco Technology Ventures' Hydrogen Business at the 2005 National Hydrogen Association) annual hydrogen meeting. The competition challenged university students to design a hydrogen power park which is a small to medium sized energy station providing combined heat and power as well as hydrogen vehicle fuel at a centralized location.

2004

In spring of 2004, Humboldt ERE students placed in the top three out of 19 entries for the First University Student Hydrogen Design Competition sponsored by NHA. The students' design - H2GO Refueling Station - was the only renewable energy design of the top three entries. Schatz Energy Research Center Director Peter Lehman was one of the people who initiated the competition with NHA.
